This Veterans Day, we are honored to spotlight an United States Air Force veteran whose journey reflects resilience, commitment, and a steadfast dedication to service: Sean Graham, Aptitude Operations Director. After serving as an E3 electrician in the Air Force, Graham still carries the skills, values, and camaraderie he developed during his military service into both his professional and personal life.
Rather than heading straight to college upon high school graduation, Graham chose to serve his country. He was interested in the structure and life experiences the military would allow, as well as the plethora of training for future career paths offered by the Air Force. Graham initially was drawn to the excitement of aviation, but he ended up serving as an E3 electrician at McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey, quickly realizing that by learning the electrical trade he was laying the groundwork for what would become a meaningful lifelong career.
“I had to adapt quickly to the responsibility of independence and this unexpected redirection of being an electrician. I wouldn’t trade my experiences and training for the world,” he said.
During Graham’s term, he gained valuable life skills, from practical training in electrical work to essential professional ethics, such as respecting the chain of command. He shares that the chain-of-command structure instilled a respect for superiors that he still carries with pride today. These lessons have been formative in Graham’s work life long after his military service ended.
Graham says one of the most memorable aspects of military life was camaraderie among peers. The sense of unity within the squadron was like “a big family,” providing a network of support and friendship as they each navigated the challenges of service. The Air Force brought together individuals striving for a common purpose, fostering bonds that made even the tough days easier to face. He said it’s this feeling of belonging that remains with him, emphasizing the value of teamwork in every environment, a sentiment he especially keeps top of mind as he interacts with coworkers today.
Serving his country was more than a job to Graham; he calls it a duty and a privilege. With a daughter currently in college, he understands each generation will choose its own path, yet hopes his journey serves as an inspiration. To this day, the skills, discipline, and pride Graham gained in the Air Force are cornerstones in his career and personal life. Veteran’s Day serves as a reminder of the pride he feels in having served—a sentiment he shares with his wife, who also retired from the military just six months ago. Graham is proud to be part of a family dedicated to service and commitment to the values that make our nation strong.
As we celebrate Veterans Day, we honor all those who have served. Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and for embodying the values that help shape our country.
